Dr. Verona D. Wilborn is a highly experienced counseling professional, educator, and school leader with more than 25 years of progressive experience serving children, adolescents, adults, and families across diverse clinical and educational settings. She is widely recognized for her ability to integrate evidence-based practices with a compassionate, culturally responsive approach, fostering meaningful therapeutic relationships that support healing, growth, and long-term resilience.
Dr. Wilborn earned her Doctorate in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2020 and holds an Advanced Counseling Degree from Old Dominion University. She also received a Master of Science in Human Services from Murray State University. In addition, she carries professional endorsements in Counselor Education, Administration, and Supervision, further underscoring her expertise in both clinical practice and leadership within the counseling field.
Her extensive professional background spans over two decades, including more than 11 years in community-based mental health settings and 22 years within school systems. Across these roles, Dr. Wilborn has provided comprehensive services including individual, group counseling, family therapy, crisis intervention, and psychoeducational support. She has worked in a wide continuum of care environments, including public schools, community mental health agencies, day treatment programs, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), and outpatient settings.
Dr. Wilborn has significant clinical experience working with individuals presenting with anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, trauma and stress-related conditions, emotional and behavioral dysregulation, ADHD-related symptoms, and academic or school adjustment concerns. She has also worked extensively with clients diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, and other mood and behavioral disorders. Additionally, Dr. Wilborn provides affirming and inclusive care for LGBTQ+ individuals, ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive therapeutic environment for clients of diverse identities and backgrounds. She is skilled in conducting comprehensive assessments and developing individualized treatment plans tailored to each client’s unique developmental, emotional, and environmental needs.
Her therapeutic approach is integrative and grounded in evidence-based modalities, including person-centered therapy, trauma-informed care, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), and motivational interviewing (MI). When appropriate, she also incorporates faith-based counseling interventions to support clients whose spiritual beliefs are an important part of their healing process. Dr. Wilborn’s work emphasizes practical skill-building, emotional insight, and strengths-based interventions to promote sustainable change and improved functioning.
