Resident in Counseling
Lindsey Rust received her B.A. in Psychology from Pepperdine University. She then obtained her M.A. in Marriage and Family Counseling from Liberty University.
During her time at Liberty, Lindsey gained experience in outpatient settings, working predominantly with adolescents and young adults suffering from issues such as trauma, relational difficulties, anxiety, and depression. With these clients, she predominantly offered psychoeducation and improved coping strategies, as well as unconditional positive regard throughout the process.
Lindsey did her internship at Impact Living Services, a community health center providing intensive in-home, therapeutic mentoring, and parenting services throughout central Virginia. She helped children with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), gender dysphoria, and trauma gain improved social skills, behavioral and emotional coping mechanisms, and better support networks both in and out of the home. She also provided parenting services to parents seeking to regain custody of their children, providing psychoeducation regarding emotional support, effective discipline, and self-care. She also served as a liaison with parents, Department of Social Services workers, foster parents, and other professionals involved in Child Protective Services cases.
Lindsey is currently a Resident in Counseling. She enjoys working with adolescents and adults dealing with neurodiversity challenges such as autism and ADHD. She believes in the unique strengths that neurodiverse individuals bring to their schools, workplaces, families, and communities. In her work, she emphasizes building a wide range of skills and habits to cope with mental, environmental, and social challenges. She predominantly uses person-centered therapy, which prioritizes unconditional positive regard and empathy as mechanisms for change. In addition, she utilizes techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy, such as cognitive restructuring and practical skills. Using techniques from a variety of therapeutic disciplines allows Lindsey to work with a diverse set of clients through whatever issues they may be facing.
Lindsey is certified as a Qualified Mental Health Professional for Adults (QMHP-A) and Qualified Mental Health Professional for Children (QMHP-C). She has experience working with both adults and children, members of the LBTQIA+ community, and individuals with diverse life experiences. Issues she has previously treated have included depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, social difficulties, parenting, and behavioral difficulties.
