Kris Lamb received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC). She is currently a student with a CACREP- accredited program for Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Liberty University. During her undergraduate degree in psychology, she worked at Inova Fairfax Hospital at the Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services (CATS) and helped individuals on the road to recovery. The age range of the population for CATS was 18 years old and up. She was able to work with the counseling mental health staff to help ensure client safety. Kris was able to build client rapport, shadow during NA and AA groups, and help to lead expressive arts groups. Working with the substance abuse population is a strong passion of hers to help the clients with recovery and decrease the stigma for the population.
After the time spent at CATS, Kris worked at Discovery Mood and Anxiety as an Education Liaison and residential counselor. During this time, she processed with clients individually and co-lead expressive art groups and cognitive behavior therapy. The population age range for the facility was 11-18. Gaining working experience with adolescents and working with individuals with depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, trauma, eating and body image disorders, and conduct disorder.
Kris currently works as a Behavior Therapist conducting Applied Behavior Analysis therapy for children with Autism. Working with children on the autism spectrum has been fulfilling for her. Providing ABA therapy for over a year has provided her more skills to work with individuals that learn in a different way. Working with children as young as 2 years old, learning to modify teaching oriented towards a young learner’s perspective.
It has been a rewarding experience for Kris to be able to work with such a wide range of populations and age groups. Along with working with those with different cultural and religious backgrounds. Being able to work with such diverse populations has continued to strengthen her approach to counseling. With many forms of therapy, every therapeutic relationship needs to be tailored to every individual. She strongly believes that the therapeutic relationship is continually working together to help support the client with his/her/their strengths.
