Qualified Mental Health Professional
Soyeon Lee received her master’s degree in Counseling Education at Sookmyung Women’s University in Korea. She was an alumnus honor scholarship student. During her time as a graduate student, she had an internship experience in counseling with college students and adults with various relationship issues. After graduation, she went on training in couple and family therapy and communication at the Korea Satir Institute.
Soyeon had a counseling internship at Inova Hospital at Fair Oaks and Washington Multicultural Counseling Center (WMCC) under Dr. Gemma Sohn and had been a resident under Dr. Mi-Kyong Kwon at HopeSpring Child & Family Clinic, LLC, and Dr. Soo Woong Han at the Family Counseling Center of Greater Washington (FCCGW). She has been a volunteer counselor at FCCGW. Currently, Soyeon is working towards her Ph.D. in Counseling with a Specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy at Daybreak University and pursuing in Certified Imago Therapist (CIT).
During her career, Soyeon has worked with a diverse group of clients, including adolescents, adults, seniors, couples, and families. She has delivered comprehensive evaluations and treatments for clients with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD), trauma, and adjustment-related distress. In particular, she has focused on the inner child, multigenerational patterns, relationship issues, communications, family-of-origin issues, boundaries, life transition, self-esteem, divorce, grief, retirement, attachment-based issues, acculturational issues, immigration adaption issues, and other life complications. With parents, she also provides parenting education and relationship coaching advice.
Soyeon utilizes an integrated approach with psychodynamic, person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, Gestalt theory, and Mindfulness. In addition, she provides approaches such as family systemic theory, experiential family theory, narrative therapy, solution-focused short therapy, emotional-focused therapy, and Imago relationship therapy. She offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere. She is working collaboratively to help clients find and reach their goals through learning new skills, self-awareness, and insights. With compassion and understanding, she empowers clients to use their strengths and internal resources so that they may live resilient, fulfilled life. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Maryland and has certifications of Qualified Mental Health Professional – Adult (QMHP-A), and Qualified Mental Health Professional – Child (QMHP-C) in Virginia.
